The roof is the most important structural component of your house. With our long cold winters, it is very important to have your roof checked and maintained annually.

The cost of a roof varies according to different factors such as roof size and slope; the type of materials and warranty; and layers of shingles that may need to be removed in case of re-roof. In addition to these factors, roof components that need to be installed, repaired or replaced such as dormers, metal valleys, skylights, chimneys, roof vents and plumbing stacks are costs that are necessary for roof maintenance and replacement.

Flat Roof

Eclipse roofing specializes in the installation, repair or maintenance of various residential and commercial flat roof systems.

The most common flat roof systems that are installed are a torch down, two-ply modified bitumen membrane systems.

The difference between varying flat roof systems using the torch down method are the number of layers. These systems typically are built on top of the existing metal or wood roof deck; followed by a layer of asphalt paper; insulation board; protect board; and finished with two layers of a modified bitumen membrane.

The first layer of modified bitumen membrane adhered in place is a smooth base sheet and the second is a cap sheet which can have a smooth or even gravel-like texture on the top.

A modified bitumen membrane is a fabricated layer of asphalt that is combined with plastic and/or rubber. This membrane typically comes in a large roll and is heated by a torch on the underside to adhere to the previous layer installed (i.e. the protect board). In addition, the torch down method seals the overlapping seams of the membrane. This seal creates a long lasting and reliable weather-proof protection for your building.

The finish on a flat roof can be selected in a number of different colours, styles and textures.

Benefits of torch down roofing and modified bitumen membranes:

  • The system is extremely flexible and will expand or contract while remaining water tight
  • Extremely durable in changing climates and harsh weather conditions
  • Easy to install, maintain and repair
  • More attractive and practical than a tar or gravel roof
